A northern-lights plan needs some room.
In Tromsø, organised aurora outings generally operate from September to early April. Cloud cover and auroral activity still affect visibility. A date inside the season is not a guarantee.
Choose a trip you would enjoy without a sighting. In the prototype, northern-lights options use a deliberately simplified September–March calendar; that demo rule is not the operator’s full season.
Give winter a flexible shape.
Official Lofoten guidance notes that winter conditions vary and recommends buffers for weather disruption. It also advises checking seasonal opening hours.
Our planning suggestion is to avoid making every remaining hour depend on an earlier activity finishing exactly as expected. Leave open time that belongs to the day, not to the next booking.
